IPC Training
IPC-A-610
Prime Alloys delivers IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) training designed to help operators, inspectors, engineers, and quality teams consistently interpret and apply workmanship acceptance criteria for electronic assemblies.
This training provides practical, image-based instruction on how to evaluate electronic assemblies across SMT, through-hole, and mixed-technology builds in accordance with IPC-A-610 Class 1, 2, and 3 requirements.
What the Training Covers
Foundations & Acceptance Criteria
- Purpose, scope, and classification (Class 1, 2, 3)
- Acceptable conditions, process indicators, and defects
- Proper inspection methodology, lighting, and magnification
- Interpretation of acceptance criteria and disposition decisions
Soldering & Workmanship
- Solder joint acceptability and common soldering anomalies
- Evaluation of nonwetting, dewetting, cold solder, voids, bridges, and excess solder
- Pb-free solder considerations and related defects
Surface Mount Assemblies (SMT)
- Chip components, gull-wing, J-lead, BTC, QFN, LGA, and BGA acceptability
- Fillet geometry, alignment, solder coverage, and coplanarity
- Defect conditions such as tombstoning, billboarding, voiding, and head-in-pillow
Through-Hole Technology
- Lead forming, protrusion, clinching, and solder fill requirements
- Supported vs unsupported holes
- Component mounting, stress relief, and damage evaluation
Hardware, Terminals & Wiring
- Terminals, turrets, hooks, solder cups, and wrapped connections
- Wire damage, insulation clearance, service loops, and routing
- Stress relief and mechanical integrity requirements
Printed Boards & Assembly Conditions
- PCB damage, delamination, measling, contamination, and cleanliness
- Solder mask, markings, conformal coating, and coating thickness
- Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and handling considerations
